Learning Plan
Share Assessment results with colleagues to collaboratively plan instruction that will best meet individual student needs.
Training faculty in all things distance education is in my job description so I feel especially obligated to stay pertinent and current in my skills in order to impart best practices to them. I schedule one-on-one training consultations by appointment and via walk-in sessions. I schedule and conduct school/department large group training sessions for SWC Higher Education Centers on Distance education bestpractices, strategies and planning.
I am also asked to travel to other colleges to consult with their faculty and DE support stakeholders on best practices in teaching and learning, technology and planning transitions to evolve their distance education programs. This is part of my philosophy that I feel is most important. Collaboration between not only your own institutional cohorts but others in your industry creates a framework of mutual respect and consultation.
There are experts in every facet of DE and in my opinion a college or university has a prima fascia responsibility to contribute and become a positive force of change and evolution in its future. I strive to do this every moment I am actively involved in DE, no matter the location or circumstance.
Developing a Learning Plan requires that I:
-
Identify a Learning Goal, the ability (i.e. knowledge, skill or attitude) to be developed;
-
Identify the learning experience needed to develop that ability; and
-
Identify the support required to develop and apply that ability.
Then the coach and employee simply need to manage the plan:
-
Agree to the plan – discuss and sign to show commitment;
-
Do it – following through;
-
Set time aside to “check in” with each other to discuss progress; and
-
Provide ongoing feedback and recognition to help guide and reinforce progress.
