Journals
A journal is a method of communicating in a more informal way but privately between the student and faculty. I use this for all of my specific motivations to students who choose to use it. This artifact is centered to identify options to expand student thinking in a personal way and in a protected environment. Student thinking, addressing learning styles and creating avenues for enrichment and/or intervention works well with the journals for me.
After the class is completed I will use the journals to change direction if necessary for the next class. I also look to these journals to help prevent students from getting lost in the online environment. By reading student journals I get a unique insight to personalities and characters. I give points for journal to make them important and there are some classes where journals are extra credit.
